Cancelled flight? When you're owed a cash refund (US, 2026)

If a US airline cancels your flight or significantly changes it and you decline the rebooking, you're owed a full cash refund to your original payment method, not a voucher. Refunds to credit cards are due within seven business days.

How to get your money back

What this rule doesn't do

It's a refund, not compensation. US law doesn't require airlines to pay you extra for a delay or cancellation. Some airlines promise meals or hotels for problems they cause; check the DOT airline customer service dashboard.
